Lyantonde's HIV activist passes on.

On April 5, 2011, Lyantonde’s long time HIV activist Bonabana Eddy passed on and was laid to rest on April 6, 2011 in Bushenyi District in Western Uganda.

Bonabana Eddy has been at the forefront of fighting HIV/AIDS in Lyantonde for over 10 years after declaring that she was HIV positive in late 1990s. Having worked as a sex worker for more than 20 years, declaring that she was quitting and openly declaring her HIV status inspired many including other sex workers who latter quite and joined her work towards reducing the rate at which HIV was spreading in Lyantonde.

She facilitated and shared her experience in workshops organized by several NGOs in Uganda and throughout the East African region. Between 2007 and 2009, she founded Lyantonde Hospital Post Test Club and Lyantonde Network of People Living with Aids through which she worked to train communities on HIV/AIDS prevention and training HIV infected members to economically sustain their lives and those of their family members.

Bonabana will be remembered as a hardworking and selfless leader who worked very hard to change her community. As ICOD Action Network, we have lost a partner in our fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Lyantonde and Uganda as a whole. May her soul rest in Eternal Peace.
