Permaculture comes to Uganda

In March 2010, ICOD Action Network in collaboration with our Chicago based partner, Project Focus (www.projectfocus.org) hosted Warren Brush and Daniel Parra Hensel in Lyantonde Uganda who trained farmers in Permaculture. Warren Brush is a certified Permaculture designer and teacher as well as a mentor. He is co-founder of Quail Springs Learning Oasis & Permaculture Farm, Sustainable Vocations, Wilderness Youth Project, Trees for Children and his Permaculture design company, True Nature Design. He works extensively in Permaculture education and sustainable systems design in North America and in Africa as well as in other countries worldwide. Daniel is a wonderful trainer too and was a great facilitator in trainings. Daniel and Warren trained farmers in 3 villages

ICT Farmers Training


Training of Lyantonde farmers in computer and internet use is still going on . 6 new members have also began training at Lyantonde Internet Center. By the end of the program, farmers will be able to use computers and internet, extract agricultural information relevant in their lives and use the information to improve production. ICOD Action Network at Lyantonde District Planning conference

On Friday January 28, 2011, two of our staff attended Lyantonde District Planning / consultative conference which was organized by Lyantonde District Local Government to develop the District Five Year Rolled Development. ICOD Action Network presented its 2010 program achievements which were appreciated by the District leadership as great steps towards transforming rural vulnerable communities.

State of Child Headed Households in Lyantonde

We have been working on this short video about the state of Child Headed Households in Lyantonde. This household is headed by a 12 year old girl who takes care of her siblings aged 8 and 9 months with the youngest HIV positive. Watch and forward to friends to watch.

ICT "A POWERFUL TOOL"

This year ICOD Action Network organised Secondary School Essay competition in Lyantonde district under the theme ICT "a powerful tool". Eleven schools participated in the competition and an independent team of teachers is selecting the best three essays and winners shall be announced very soon.
